BEC Partners with CBSN for BE-STEMM 2023

The Canadian Black Scientists Network  is a national coalition of Black Canadians whose mission is to Elevate, Make Visible, Celebrate and Connect Black Canadians pursuing or possessing advanced degrees in STEMM across scholarly fields and career sectors.

We have partnered because we recognize that, while Black Canadians are under-represented across all professions, this is particularly true in STEMM fields, where systemic barriers are robbing Canada of the innovative talent and diverse perspectives that are needed for high scientific impact and innovation on a global stage.

The inaugural BE-STEMM conference was an unqualified success. Over 1500 registrants from across the country and from diverse population groups met to hear about the research of Black Canadians in research from across STEMM fields, and to identify actions for Black inclusion in STEMM. Prime Minister Trudeau made remarks at the closing ceremonies, which featured 22 research awards sponsored by post-secondary institutions, federal, and provincial granting councils.  In addition, the career fair led to several new career connections between sponsors and members.

In 2023, BEC and CBSN are joining forces to present the 2nd edition of BE-STEMM which will take place from Feb 1 - Feb 4, 2023. Link to registration: https://be-stemm.blackscientists.ca/

We are also taking abstract submissions from interested presenters across various engineering and scientific fields.

Abstracts due by January 6, 2023, 11:59pm ET
