Who We Are

Statement of Purpose

Our purpose is to empower and uplift the Black Engineers community, including youth and aspiring engineers, by advocating for equitable opportunities, enhancing living conditions, and promoting mental health improvement. We achieve this through robust mentorship programs, impactful networking events, innovative educational initiatives, safe spaces for difficult conversations, and dedicated research efforts. We are committed to leveraging all our human and financial resources towards realizing a stronger, and more inclusive community.

We are a community for Canada’s Black engineers, engineering interns, graduates and professionals.

We provide networking, mentoring, training, growth and development opportunities for a diverse engineering workplace.

The mission of the Black Engineers of Canada (BEC) is to provide an enabling environment for growth and leadership by developing pathways to excellence for Black engineers and engineering graduates in Canada.

Our Mission

We want a world where black people excel in their chosen engineering profession without limitations that are caused by societal biases.

Our Vision

Why was BEC formed?

The idea of an organization that inspires, supports, and encourages excellence amongst Blacks in Canada, in the profession of engineering has originated in the minds of many.

The intent of our five founding directors was to develop an entity that brings this idea to life. The organization will ultimately allow us better means to connect skilled talents to life-changing opportunities in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) while fostering economic empowerment within the community across the country.

This idea will out-live us and we, the existing Board of Directors, are honoured to be custodians of this cherished cause on this leg of BEC’s journey. We thank you for coming along with us.
