The Black Engineers Experience Survey

“We hope firstly that your responses help us advocate on your behalf. We also hope that the survey questions inspire you to start taking notice of YOUR workplace interactions, or your interactions and experiences navigating professional designation, apprenticeship, or engineering school, for instance. Change only happens when we WORK in support of change”.

The Backstory

The Development Team

Meet Dr. Donna Swapp

Dr. Swapp works as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina. Dr. Swapp has a passion for civil rights and social action, education, human rights, disaster and humanitarian relief, environment and student leadership. Dr. Swapp has extensive experience researching the relationship of work and Black wellbeing with projects in Canada, Jamaica, and Grenada. She draws on critical, anti-racist, and decolonial frameworks to reach conclusions. Her doctoral study explored the relationship of work in Grenada where she studied how school principals’ work in Grenada; how incumbents understand their work, the contested ways in which they undertake such work, and the characteristics, challenges and opportunities such work presents. In this video Dr. Swapp talks about the importance of The Black Engineers Experience Survey, what the creation process of the survey was like and the main takeaways participants can have when doing the survey. BEC thanks Donna for her time and dedication to developing and launching the survey.
